Using Kato
Introduction
Kato is your personalised digital record store assistant. It understands music taste and can prioritise and pick out the best releases from your promo inbox - as well as make suggestions for releases you'll like on other platforms like Bandcamp and Beatport.
Training Kato to understand your music taste
To get started, you'll need to train Kato by telling it your favourite record labels. You can do this on the My Taste page. You can either use the search box in the top right to search for labels or artists that you like, or you can click the hearts on the recommendations you see underneath the different genre headings. The more labels you like, the more intelligent the recommendations will become.
Kato's Picks
The Kato's Picks page contains picks from the FATdrop promos you've been sent. Kato uses your taste to figure out which of your unopened promos are the most relevant to you. You can listen, leave feedback and download on this page just like you can on a normal FATdrop promo.
Play Mode
Play mode allows you to receive recommendations of new releases on Bandcamp or Beatport, relevant to your taste. It uses a group of labels as a starting point, and shows you new releases both on those labels and on labels similar to them. There are three ways to launch play mode:
1) Clicking 'play' next to one of the genre categories in your My Taste page. This will launch play with the labels you've liked in that category as the starting point.
2) Going to a specific label's page in the explore section and then going to the 'play' tab. This will launch play mode with just that specific label as the starting point.
3) Using the Genres in the explore section. You can either play any of the recommended genres on the main explore page, or you can click 'open genre explorer' to navigate through different genres, at any point launching play mode for the genre you're currently on.
Keyboard Shortcuts
These shortcuts can be used on the Kato's picks page:
- play / pause: space bar
- volume up: shift + up arrow
- volume down: shift + down arrow
- skip backwards 10s: left arrow
- skip forward 10s: right arrow

Helping Kato chose better picks for you
After listening, you can click either the thumbs up or thumbs down icon to tell Kato whether it was a good pick for you or not. This helps Kato learn about your taste and get better at picking music for you to check out.
Turning Kato off
To turn Kato off, go to your settings and turn the 'Enable Kato?' toggle off.
